When it comes to jet engine testing facilities in Manitoba, the federal government is an equal opportunity funder.
Lynn Yelich, the Conservative government’s minister of state for Western Economic Diversification, announced in Winnipeg on June 8 that the Global Aerospace Centre for Icing and Environmental Research (GLACIER), a joint-venture partnership between jet engine manufacturers Pratt & Whitney Canada and Rolls-Royce Canada, which opened just south of Thompson in October 2010, would receive $5 million from the federal government to purchase equipment that would allow it to perform additional tasks such as aerospace engine design validation and the testing of green aerospace engine emissions and alternative fuels.
